Alina McGregor
Co-Project Leader
Administrator
I am an MSc Student in the Global Sustainability Solutions programme at the University of Exeter. I studied Sociology and Anthropology as my undergraduate and developed a passion for understanding the cultural differences and similarities which define our behaviour and lead to social change. I have worked in diverse work environments ranging from sociological research projects to being a project assistant at a private company, to share my passion for martial arts with children. I am now exploring how a bottom-up approach to poverty and sustainability can truly affect change through my role at Enactus as a project leader of The Bioplastic Collective.

Event Manager
Hello everyone! My name is Izzy and I am a student on the Msci Applied Psychology course at the University of Exeter. Inspired by a recycling initiative in my school in Spain, I became passionate about the current plastic crisis and it’s consequences in different parts of the world. The Bioplastic Collective appeared as the perfect opportunity to make a meaningful real world contribution while further developing my skills in a supportive environment. My role in The Bioplastic Collective is to manage the social media pages and help organize/coordinate fundraising events. I am very excited to see how this project evolves in the short and long-term future.

Hi everyone! I’m Maddie - one of the Project leaders for The Bioplastic Collective. I am currently a third-year studying Classics with Russian and mandarin. I really enjoy studying languages, lunacy’s IRC’s and learning about different cultures and traditions through my interest in anthropology. I knew I wanted to be involved with this project as I have been very interested in sustainable and social development in the last few years. Working alongside like-minded students to improve the plastic pollution situation is very important to me. I am super excited to see what TBC can achieve, and how the team can help tackle the plastic problem in Accra in a new and innovative way!

Nino Shallal
Legal Advisor
Treasurer
Hello! I’m Nino, a final year Graduate Law student studying at the University of Exeter. I first completed a four-year History degree with Honours at a university in Ottawa, Canada before I came to the UK to begin my law degree. During my studies, particularly regarding the historical development and legal obligations of corporations, I developed a passion for environmental preservation and sustainable accountability. I’ve studied and partaken in various projects and workplaces, from conducting academic studies to sustainable catering for large-scale events and corporations. My role at Enactus under The Bioplastic Collective as Legal Advisor & Treasurer encompasses a responsibility to ensure the Community Interest Company remains viable, legally compliant, and profitable. I am currently exploring how our various potential business models with a variety of products could alleviate both pollution and poverty in Ghana and, hopefully & eventually, further abroad.

Max Kennan
Fundraising Manager
I am a BA Geography student at the University of Exeter. Growing up in South East Asia and Europe I saw many cities and how they impact the environment, and how they provided solutions to this. Inspired by my high school teacher I became passionate about the climate and solutions to the climate crisis. My ambitions with this project are to make real change and drive innovation in solutions to plastic waste. I hope to learn valuable skills along the way for my future career; my goal is to have a career in environmental sustainability and help build a greener future.

and Researcher
I’m a BA English Literature and French, student at the University of Exeter with a strong interest in sustainability. Motivated by my cultural curiosity, I endeavour to build humanities-based experience by engaging in international networking opportunities such as The Bioplastic Collective. This Enactus project is a brilliant way to combine my written and spoken communication competencies and passion for the environment into progressive social action. Through my role as External Outreach and Partnerships Officer, I look forward to cultivating eco-positive stakeholder and research relationships with the Ghanaian academic sphere and coastal communities.
